The Like are on their way to the top, and there's no stopping them now! Alternative Press, The New York Times, and Teen Vogue are all singing their praises, and they're currently in the studio recording their debut album. So just why do they like The Like? Well, it could be the band's awesome live shows or rocking opening spots on tours with Phantom Planet and Maroon5, but we think it has more to do with the creative energy these girls get from their vegetarian diets. Want to find out more about what bassist Charlotte Froom has to say about being veg? You'll just have to keep reading …
Was there any one thing that made you go vegetarian, like a book or a video or a personal experience?
I was 2 years old and I asked what chicken was made of. When I found out that it was the animal, I said I would never eat meat again. I didn't understand why anyone would kill animals to eat them if you didn't have to.
Why do you think so many more girls are vegetarian than guys?
I think it's because girls are more sensitive.
What are some of your favorite vegetarian foods?
Italian, Mediterranean, Indian, Japanese, caprese sandwiches, juice, all fruits and vegetables, burritos, green corn tamales, any kind of vegetable soup.
Do you have any advice for teenagers who want to go vegetarian, but whose parents aren't very supportive?
It's easy to understand that your parents wouldn't want to make two separate meals for the family, so try to figure out easy things to make. Talk to your parents about what you want them to buy at the grocery store. They need to understand your reasoning and see that you're not just trying to rebel against them.
Would you ever wear fur? Why or why not?
No, it creeps me out.
Do you have any companion animals?
I want a dog more than anything, but I live in an apartment and I'm going to be away too much to get one right now. It wouldn't be right.
