Most of the leather in the U.S. comes from India, where cows often have chili peppers and tobacco rubbed into their eyes to keep them moving while traveling long distances (sometimes hundreds of miles in the heat without food and water!) to slaughter.
At the slaughterhouse, their throats are cut and they’re skinned, sometimes while they’re still alive. All for shoes, jackets, wallets, and the belts wrapped around your waist.
