Post Your 'If You Wouldn't Eat …' Pic

As kids, many people beg and plead with their parents to let them adopt a puppy or kitten from the local animal shelter. Just looking at the cute little buggers, who wouldn’t want to take one home? Most people would never dream of eating their family’s dog or cat (or any dog or cat for that matter), yet many of those same people still eat cows, pigs, and chickens for dinner. A little strange, don’t you think?

More than 27 billion animals are killed for food each year in the United States alone. These animals have emotions and feel pain just like dogs and cats. Chickens spend their entire lives in tiny cages and sheds and have their beaks cut off when they are babies. Cows and pigs are torn from their mothers shortly after they’re born and then crammed into small crates too small for them to turn around in. When they’re slaughtered, animals are still conscious and often thrash around for minutes after their throats are slit.

Make a statement for all animals. We want you to take a picture with your dog or cat and a sign reading, “If You Wouldn’t Eat a Dog or Cat …”—just print the sign below, or make your own sign with a marker and a piece of paper.

Print this sign and then take a picture with your dog or cat!
