Hello! My name is Marissa, and I’m the college campaigns strategist for peta2. I advise some students in the Campus Rep program, in addition to managing various other projects in the department. I was a campus rep while I was a student at The George Washington University, where I founded GW Animal Advocates, the student animal rights group. The Campus Rep program helped me take our club to the next level with professional leaflets, banners, stickers, and funding for our events—and it also helped me develop skills in effective outreach and events planning. After I graduated, I moved to Los Angeles to start working at peta2.
I’m a military kid, so I grew up all over the country, but I’ve spent most of my life in Hawaii. At home, you’ll usually find me snuggling with my two adopted kitties, Pika and Z; knitting; watching Outlander or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; and baking too many vegan cookies. I also love going to yoga classes a few times a week, and I’m a part of the PETA Pack team, currently training for my first 10k run! On weekends, I love visiting California’s numerous national parks and forests, hiking around LA, shopping for used books, and going to protests and demonstrations for animal rights and other social justice issues.
