Hometown: Corona, California
Favorite Music: The Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Magnetic Fields, David Bowie, The Clean, Broadcast, Daniel Johnston, Animal Collective, New Order, Devo, The Cure, Girls, every band on Sarah Records, Modest Mouse, Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers, My Bloody Valentine, Television Personalities, Tashaki Miyaki, SoKo, Beat Happening, Bauhaus, Cleaners From Venus, Mazzy Star, T. Rex, and the Pixies. I listen to a lot of indie dream pop, post-punk, and shoegaze.
How I Went Vegan: I was in fourth grade, and my sister was a vegetarian. She asked me and my mom if we would go vegetarian as well, and we did without hesitation. We all went vegan within the next few months. As of now, I'm the only vegan in my family, but I recently convinced my mom to go vegetarian again (yay!).
About Me: I am a totally sane cat lady. My cats mean everything to me, and I probably spend way too much time with them. I can spot a cat from a mile away, despite my poor eyesight. I go to a lot of concerts and local shows. Intersectional feminism is something that I feel particularly strongly about—aside from animal rights, of course. Thrift-store shopping is one of my favorite things to do and probably my worst habit.
Random Story: When I was in fifth grade, I was wearing a pin on my shirt that read, "Praise Seitan," and I specifically remember that my classmates were extremely offended by it during a game of dodgeball. Needless to say, I didn't play very much longer during that game.
Fave TV Shows: The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Orange Is the New Black, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, and Arrested Development. I don't watch cable television, but Netflix is my life!
Fave Vegan Food: I absolutely love dipping chips in anything, whether it be salsa or creamy veganized dips. I am a lover of all fruit—avocados are a definite staple in my kitchen. I recently started eating quinoa, and I can't believe I was missing out on such goodness throughout the years. My favorite thing to make is creamy basil spread—I seriously use it with everything.
