    Nutella…a chocolate and hazelnut spread…seems to have swept the “foodie world” by storm, but it isn’t the healthiest thing in the world and it’s definitely not vegan! (Ingredients: sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, reduced minerals whey (milk), lecithin as emulsifier (soy), vanillin: an artificial flavor.)
    Soooo not good for you, for animals or for the earth.
    Enter homemade vegan nutella!

    Hazelnut-Chocolate Spread (homemade Nutella)
    Los Angeles Times
    Ingredients:
    2 cups raw hazelnuts
    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder*
    1 cup powdered sugar
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    3 tablespoons hazelnut oil, more as needed
    *Note: Use good-quality cocoa powder, such as Scharffen Berger.
    You can use pre-skinned hazelnuts if you don’t have the time or patience to skin them yourself, but almost every nutella-ist agrees that doing it yourself gives you much better flavor.
