Ah, teachers … our number one source for homework stress, the occasional detention, and general academic misery. Can’t live with ’em, can’t get a formal education without ’em, huh? But hey, let’s focus on the posi here: It’s already May, school’s almost out, and every once in a while, you do meet a cool teacher who’s doing awesome things to make a difference for animals (just like you are!).
ICYMI, May is National Teacher Appreciation Month, so TeachKind, PETA’s humane-education division, is holding a teacher appreciation contest that happens to give you the perfect opportunity to honor any inspiring teachers who are speaking up for animals. The winning teacher will receive a bunch of great prizes. And honestly, it’s almost finals week—don’t you want to get on some teacher’s good side right about now? 😉
So, do you know a rad teacher who does great things for animals?
Maybe he or she is the adviser for your animal rights club, a science teacher who ditched dissection, a nutrition teacher who talked to the class about vegan health, or that one cool teacher who showed an animal rights documentary in class. Whatever it is that your teacher is doing or has done to help animals this year, we want to hear about it.
E-mail [email protected] by Tuesday, May 24, with the information below to nominate your awesome teacher for a chance to win* this year’s Teacher Appreciation contest!
Put “Teacher Appreciation Contest” in the e-mail’s subject line, and include ALL the following information:
- Your first and last name
- The name of your school
- Your school’s city and state
- Your teacher’s first and last name
- Your teacher’s e-mail address (If you don’t have it, ask him or her.)
- ALL the deets about the things your teacher has done to help animals this school year (We want to hear about everything.)
All right, that’s it! Now may all the good karma (and grades) come your way.
*Contest details: Open to U.S. residents only. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law. TeachKind will choose one winner and three runners-up by assessing two criteria: 1) which teacher is setting the most inspirational example for students through his or her actions for animals (e.g., encouraging students to try vegan foods; explaining why the classroom is not a safe place for “pets”; demonstrating why we shouldn’t buy or wear clothing, shoes, or other accessories that are made out of leather or other animal skins; etc.) and 2) which teacher most impresses us with his or her actions to help animals during this school year (e.g., implementing the use of virtual-dissection software in classrooms instead of dissecting animals, volunteering to head the school’s animal rights club, setting up a fundraiser to benefit animals in need, etc.).
The winning teacher will receive an animal-friendly gift basket designed especially for teachers (which includes a PETA water bottle, stickers, pencils, and other goodies!), a one-of-a-kind TeachKind tote bag, and a certificate honoring him or her as our Teacher of the Year!
