Ask yourself this: Why do we consume another species’ milk—and why do we consume a food that’s meant for babies long after we’re fully grown?

The short answer is money. The dairy industry rakes in serious profits from selling cow’s breastmilk to consumers who’ve never considered how weird and wrong it is to consume bovine mammary secretions.

Unfortunately, some people have been fooled into thinking cow’s milk is some kind of magical white liquid that makes our bones stronger, but this a myth. Milk does little for our bones, and it’s linked to serious health issues like heart disease and cancer. Yikes!

Not only is cow’s milk bad for humans, the process of stealing it from cows is also extremely cruel. The dairy industry forcibly impregnates cows, takes their newborn calves away from them, and hooks them up to milking machines.

Half of all cows will develop an udder infection called mastitis from over-milking, yet despite their agony, many are denied painkillers. These infections contaminate the milk they produce with pus. Nice work, dairy industry. ?

Dairy industry workers have genetically manipulated or even drugged cows to make them produce up to four and a half times as much milk as they normally would. They’re forcibly impregnated over and over again until they’re slaughtered when they’re only 4 or 5 years old. The babies who were taken from them will be either forced into the dairy industry like their mothers or killed for veal or beef.

So what did we learn here today? No one wins. Cows endure miserable lives as their bodies are abused, while humans grow sick from consuming the milk that’s intended for their babies.
