Need a reason NOT to eat eggs? How about the horrific suffering that chickens in the egg industry endure? In the egg industry, males and females are separated as babies. Since male chicks are useless to the egg industry, they are usually ground up ALIVE or suffocated in trash bags. Female chicks often have the ends of their sensitive beaks cut off with a hot blade and are treated as nothing more than egg-making machines.

More than 300 million hens are used by the U.S. egg industry every year. Often, five to 11 hens are crammed into tiny wire “battery” cages, which are stacked on top of each other, allowing pee and poop to fall down on birds in the lower cages. After about two years of misery, these young hens are sent to slaughter.

Luckily for us (AND chickens), egg replacements are easy to use and often much healthier than eggs. The following egg replacers can be used in everything from savory dishes to baking to whatever your heart desires:
1. Soda
Yep, you read that right! A can of soda can be used to replace eggs and oil when making a cake with cake mix. Seriously, it works! Just combine one can of any soda with a box of cake mix and follow the baking instructions. Hint: Check out our list of cake hacks for more egg-free cake ideas!
2. 2 Tbsp. Water + 1 Tbsp. Oil + 2 Tsp. Baking Powder
