It’s hard to believe that anyone would wear the skin of dead animals (gross!), but that’s exactly what leather is! Every leather handbag, jacket, or pair of shoes came from the back of an animal who didn’t want to die.

The good news is that you can find nonleather clothes and accessories just about anywhere you might shop. All you have to do is check!

  1. Read the label before you skip that cool-looking pair of boots—they might be vegan! Look for alternative, cruelty-free materials that imitate leather, including faux leather, pleather, synthetic leather, PU, man-made leather, waxed cotton, and imitation leather.
  2. Get to know the different symbols. Sometimes there’s a sticker on the bottom of the shoe or on the inside of a jacket with symbols that are used to identify the materials. Just get to know them and you’ll be able to find out if an item is vegan in a flash!
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask! If you’re not sure whether a pair of shoes is vegan after reading the label, all you have to do is write to the company and ask. If a representative can’t give you a straight answer, just shoot us an e-mail, and we’ll help you out!

There you go—it has never been easier to look stylish and help animals at the same time! 🙂
