Are tacos vegan? Absolutely!
There’s a vegan version of practically every animal-derived food, but the main ingredients for tacos are already super vegan-friendly: tortillas, rice, beans, potatoes, salsa, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, corn, cilantro, and lime.
The ingredients listed above would make an extremely tasty taco by themselves, but why stop there? Don’t forget soy chorizo, vegan cheese, and dairy-free sour cream. Most taco seasoning mixes are vegan, too—simply sprinkle one on some meatless crumbles or veggies instead of on animal flesh.
We’ve compiled a list of tips and recipes so that you can easily make affordable tacos. Here are just a few of our favorites (click for the recipes):

And for the toppings:
Stock up on essentials like tortillas and delicious vegan-friendly sauces like La Costeña Ranchera Salsa, Doña María Mole Verde, and La Victoria Enchilada Sauce. Certain types of refried beans contain animal fats (aka “lard”), so keep an eye out for that. No time to make Spanish rice at home? Buy a box of Near East Spanish Rice or Rice-A-Roni.
