Victory! We Shut Down This Cruel UMass Marmoset Laboratory
VICTORY! After years of non-stop pressure from PETA, the University of Massachusetts—Amherst marmoset laboratory of Angès Lacreuse has closed, ending more than a decade of cruel and deadly experiments on marmosets. 🎉🎉🎉

Lacreuse spent more than ten years performing menopause experiments on marmosets—but since marmosets don’t experience menopause, Lacreuse attached hand warmers to them to mimic hot flashes. 😡 Experimenters in her laboratory drilled holes into the animals’ skulls, cut into their necks, and threaded electrodes through their bodies. In some tests, these sensitive, social monkeys were left in solitary confinement just to see how they’d react.

How is this science??
Since 2021, PETA and our supporters—including Massachusetts native and actor Casey Affleck—have campaigned to end Lacreuse’s experiments. PETA supporters sent nearly 1.4 million messages to UMass calling for the laboratory to be shut down. And it worked! Each supporter who spoke up helped spare marmosets from living in agony.

we can’t stop now
Just like these supporters, YOU have the power to help save animals from experimentation. Let’s keep the ball rolling—urge Congress to shut down the seven National Primate Research Centers (NPRCs), which have tormented and killed hundreds of thousands of monkeys!
