Mission: Share How ‘Rotten’ Eggs Are

Chickens are #1 moms.🐔 Here’s why

1. She uses her wings to protect her chicks from the rain.🪽

2. She talks to her chicks even before they hatch.

3. She teaches them how to stay safe when they’re ready to leave the nest.

Yet hens in the egg industry never get to be mothers.💔 That’s only the beginning of how rotten the egg industry is.

An ex-egg worker shared this footage reportedly captured at Shady Brae Farms, a Pennsylvania egg farm owned by a supplier to Sauder’s Eggs, which touts the eggs it sells as “ethically sourced.”

The whistleblower shares a different story: hens trapped in waste-flooded pits, filthy cages imprisoning both the living and the dead, black mold, and even dead cats who were believed to be poisoned.

No matter what the carton says, the egg industry can never be “ethical.” These labels only keep the egg industry in business by deceiving consumers who would otherwise choose vegan! But the egg industry’s rottenness doesn’t end there…

Chickens have been bred to lay more eggs than would ever be natural—about 300 per year! Eventually, their bodies become so depleted that they stop producing eggs. That’s why farmers will often use what’s called “forced molting” (basically starving them, leading to feather loss) to shock them into another laying cycle. Chickens could live 10 to 15 years, but in the egg industry, they only live two years full of misery before they are killed. Meanwhile, male chicks, who don’t lay eggs, are killed the day they hatch.

The cruelty reportedly documented at Shady Brae Farms is not an outlier. It’s simply the way the egg industry does business. But they’re not getting any of ours.🙅
