See How This Teen Is Pushing Back Against Dissection at Her School

One person standing up for animals can have a massive ripple effect. Want proof? Meet Annalie Quigley, a senior at Marlborough High School in Los Angeles, who has helped flip the script on animal dissection!

Like many of us, Annalie was told to dissect an animal in school when she was younger and wasn’t given another option. She loved animals and felt extremely icky during that lesson. But now that she’s learned more about dissection, she has a new mission: To support students’ rights to opt out of this cruelty with help from the Kind Frog. 🐸

I believe that we should take every opportunity to end the unnecessary suffering of animals, and I wanted to see if the Kind Frog is an adequate alternative for classrooms. —Annalie

About 3 million frogs are taken from their homes in nature and killed specifically for dissection every year, and other small animals are bred in warehouses before meeting the same fate. There’s literally no reason for this. Enter the Kind Frog, a super-realistic synthetic frog model. It’s safer, cheaper, and leaves way less trauma than cutting into dead animals every year—and thanks to Annalie, students at her school can now choose it for dissection lessons. 👏👏👏

What was the key to Annalie’s success? One word: Determination. She ran experiment sessions in which students used Kind Frogs to learn anatomy. She gave a presentation on the problems with dissecting animals and why the Kind Frog is the real MVP. She wrote a research paper about her experiments and the great results she saw in student learning and engagement.

Eventually, the goal is to achieve at the high school level what is largely underway at the college level—the replacement of animal dissection with more humane alternatives. —Annalie

Through it all, Annalie learned that a ton of students hate the thought of dissecting animals and want a better option. You should never be afraid to ask for that better option, and Annalie can be your inspo: She pushed for change, and a section of biology at her school officially adopted the Kind Frog as part of its curriculum for the 2025-2026 school year. 🤯

For helping save animals by getting humane dissection options at her school, peta2 is presenting Annalie with our Hero to Animals Award!
