peta2 x Diva Bleach: Adopt, Don’t Shop!
Diva Bleach is on a roll. In the past two years, the Phoenix-based pop-rock band has toured with The Maine, Mayday Parade, and We The Kings—and just when you thought they couldn’t get more iconic, it turns out they’re obsessed with compassion! 🤩 The duo recently teamed up with peta2 to help spread this simple message: Adopt, don’t shop.

There are millions of homeless animals in the U.S. at any given time, and buying an animal from a “pet” store or breeder means a homeless animal misses out on getting a family. 🥺 Syd and Brie from Diva Bleach are pros at channeling their life experiences into bangers, so it’s no surprise that their personal connections to adopting animals also fuel their advocacy.
I’m so glad we adopted my dog, Maddie, because she needed a home after living on the streets. – Syd

Most animals sold in “pet” stores come from high-volume breeding mills where they’re confined to tiny, filthy cages and denied their basic needs. Many are shipped inside cramped containers to stores and show up starving, sick, or injured. Dead and dying animals are considered part of the “cost” of doing business. 😰

Smaller breeding operations are just as bad. It’s irresponsible af to bring more companion animals into the world when millions are already without homes. Each time a breeder sells an animal, it’s motivated to breed more and rob another homeless animal of a chance to be adopted. To help end this cycle of misery, Syd and Brie urge us all to kiss breeders goodbye and adopt animals from shelters instead.
When I first moved out of my parents’ house, I knew I needed a companion animal; I’ve never not had an animal companion in my whole life! I went to a local shelter and found the sweetest little black cat to take home. – Brie

While “pet” stores and breeders’ main goal is to make money, an animal shelter aims to protect neglected, abused, and homeless animals and help get them adopted. 🙌 Shelters keep animals safe from the streets, where they struggle to survive, risk being hit by cars or attacked by other animals, or could even be poisoned or shot by cruel humans.
This is exactly why Diva Bleach wants us to make animal overpopulation stop! by adopting animals, NOT buying them. You’ll give a struggling animal the loving home they deserve and save animals from being born into misery. 😸 How sweet of a deal is that?
Besides adopting, there’s so much you can do to help companion animals thrive. You can:
- Take down signs advertising breeders that you see around your neighborhood
- Pass out leaflets about spaying, neutering, and adopting (email us at [email protected] to get FREE leaflets)
- Donate supplies and volunteer at your local animal shelter
- Host a shelter drive at your school
- Organize a protest against your local pet store if they sell cats, dogs, or other animals
- Organize fundraisers for shelters
- Talk to your family, friends, and classmates about looking for animals on Petfinder or at their local shelter when they decide to add to their family.
We stan Syd and Brie so hard for using their platform to help animals. 💖 If you love Diva Bleach even more now, check for upcoming tour dates near you!
