Most horses used for racing are pumped full of drugs to push them through their painful injuries. They’re also hit, whipped, and have even been electrically shocked to keep them racing. Once they no longer make humans enough $$$, tho, many are slaughtered.

how horses suffer for events and competitions

Racetracks aren’t the only deadly places for horses—anywhere that hosts horse-related events or competitions can turn into a bloodbath. A horse named Jet Set hurt his leg so badly during an equestrian event at the 2020 Olympic Games that he had to be euthanized. And more than 75 animals have been killed during Canada’s annual Calgary Stampede rodeo festival alone, some after fracturing their legs, breaking their backs, or having heart attacks.

how horses suffer for horse-drawn carriages

Making horses pull carriages is cruel. They’re forced to work in all weather extremes, dodge traffic, and haul heavy loads on the hard pavement. In 2022, one of these horses, named Ryder, collapsed in the middle of a packed NYC street and later died, and in 2025, another horse named Lady met the same fate. 💔 Horses and humans have been seriously hurt—and even killed—when the horses get startled and run out of control, or when cars crash into the carriages.

This kind of B.S. happens all over the world. PETA Asia investigations into Egypt’s top tourist sites have found exhausted horses being forced to carry tourists in scorching temps. The rotting bodies of dead horses have been found dumped in the trash, and one time, PETA Asia investigators found a horse who was barely alive and had been left to die in agony.
