Hometown: Monterey, CA.
Favorite Bands: Hole, The Pixies, The Beatles, Bright Eyes, Built to Spill, Deerhunter, The Smiths, The Cure, Blur, Pavement, Hunx and His Punx, Warpaint, Weezer, The Knife, Velvet Underground. Also anything ’60s garage punk, ‘70s psychedelic, ‘80s new wave, or ‘90s girl-rock is bound to be blasting out of the cassette player in my car.
Favorite TV Shows: Twin Peaks and X-Files are all I ever need, but RuPaul’s Drag Race, Degrassi and Daria are close runner-ups.
Hobbies: Working on various art projects, inventing new vegan desserts, showing off pictures of my adorable sixteen-year-old cat Djali, and browsing the occult section of libraries and bookstores.
Why I Went Veg: I was at a play rehearsal during my junior year of high school and part of the costume I was given included a fur scarf that still had the animal’s little head attached. I was disgusted at the thought of an animal being killed for something as petty as a fashion accessory, and was complaining about how I was uncomfortable wearing it. A cast mate, tired of my complaints, turned to me and asked “Do you eat meat?” “Yes,” I responded. “Well then,” he said, “stop whining, because it’s basically the same thing.” Although his intention was to get me to stop complaining about my costume, his comment actually helped me make a connection that changed my life—that an animal being exploited and killed for ANY reason is not okay, and that I should feel just as disgusted about eating meat as I do about wearing fur or hunting. After that comment I immediately went vegetarian, and then went vegan two years later. It’s probably the best and most important choice I’ve ever made.
And A Few Final Details: I'm a Libra, cat lover, kombucha addict, and treasure troll collector. My favorite color is green, low-budget horror movies are my favorite, I'm known to wear cats ears and princess crowns in public, and I like to pretend my parents named me after Nina Hagen.
