Avon, Mary Kay, Estée Lauder DO Test on Animals

ATTENTION: Avon, Estée Lauder, and Mary Kay have been added to PETA’s list of companies that DO test on animals.

Why? After two decades of promoting their “no animal testing” policies, Avon, Estée Lauder, and Mary Kay have quietly resumed paying for cruel tests on animals—without letting consumers know! We have confirmed with each company that chemicals are being dripped into rabbits’ eyes and that substances are being rubbed onto animals’ skin because of requirements of the Chinese government in order to market products in that country.

Click here to let Avon, Estée Lauder, and Mary Kay know that you won’t buy their products until they are 100 percent cruelty-free once again. Fortunately for animals, you can still choose from more than 1,000 companies in peta2’s online searchable database of cosmetics and personal-care companies that don’t harm animals at home or overseas.

I AM DEFINITELY NEVER BUYING AVON, MARY KAY,OR ESTEE LAUDER!! AND THAT’S A FACT!! I AM TELLING ALL MY FRIENDS, EVEN. I WILL NOT BUY THESE PRODUCTS UNTIL THEY STOP TESTING ON ANIMALS.

YOUR TECHNICIANS AND RESEARCH PERSONNEL ARE CRUEL HEARTLESS MONSTERS. AVON, MARY KAY, & ESTEE LAUDER. WHY DON’T YOU TAKE YOUR ENTIRE PERSONNEL TO VISIT YOUR RESEARCH LABS–IT IS CRUEL AND I WILL NEVER SEE YOUR PRODUCTS THE SAME AGAIN.

    EVIL…..ALL OF YOU!!!!

This is disgusting! Some people need to be put in those animals places and see how it feels to be abused.
This has physically made me sick.

I sent them a the email and they wrote me back:

“Thank you for your email sharing your concerns, and for giving us the opportunity to respond.

Avon does not conduct animal testing to substantiate the safety of any of its products. In fact, Avon was the first major cosmetics company to end animal testing on products, more than 20 years ago.

Although Avon does not conduct animal testing to substantiate the safety of any of its products, some select products may be required by law in a few countries to undergo additional safety testing, under the directive of a government or health agency. This may include animal testing, and in those few instances Avon always attempts to persuade the requesting authority to accept non-animal test data. When those attempts are unsuccessful, Avon cannot break the law and therefore we must submit the products requested. This is an issue facing all global beauty companies, we are not alone in this dilemma and we continue to push for alternate measures.

Avon has worked to advance alternatives to animal testing for decades. The Vice President of Product Safety & Integrity serves on the Scientific Advisory Panel of The Institute of the In Vitro Sciences, Inc. (IIVS), a non-profit research and testing organization dedicated to the advancement of in vitro (non-animal) methods worldwide. Similarly, Avon continues to support research into alternatives conducted by the Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments (FRAME) in the United Kingdom, the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at Johns Hopkins University in the US, and the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing. Avon is a Founding Sponsor of the American Society for Cellular Computational Toxicology. In addition, Avon works closely on this issue with other companies in the Beauty industry through the US Personal Care Products Council.

You can be confident that Avon shares your commitment to animal safety. Opposition to animal testing and respect for animal welfare are a cornerstone of product safety for Avon, and Avon continues to actively work to advance the use of alternatives to animal testing worldwide. We encourage you to call for the global acceptance of non animal test data.”

I’m so happy that my family and I don’t buy these products! And I’ll, for sure, tell everybody not to buy anything from these industries! Animals have to be respected!

I can’t believe this. I always had trusted Mary Kay. Aug. That’s crap. They should have at least informed their customers, but hey, that’s business right? Spend money on worthless tests and get the money back by decieving the consumers.

I am a new Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and I only began to love Mary Kay products because I was told that they were cruelty-free. This new information extremely upsets me and now I don’t want to continue in this business. How can I sell this product to people knowing that animals have suffered to make it?!

      Sarah,

I too am a Mary Kay Consultant and did not know that the products that I am selling are made by a company that does such cruel testing on animals. I am sure many Mary Kay Representatives are unaware of this and if more knew perhaps they would no longer want to be a part of this company. I wish there was a way to get the word out and make Mary Kay stop testing their products on innocent animals.

Sarah, I’m sorry. But your conscience is telling you what you have to do. It’s really a shame that these companies, that are already so huge money-wise, have to stoop to this low level to make even MORE money. I’m so glad I no longer wear make-up on a daily basis. I was going to buy some Avon for Christmas presents and now I’m glad I didn’t.
