Whether these highly intelligent animals are hooked at the end of some asshole fisherman’s pole or trapped and left for days between hundreds of other frantic, terrified fish in a boating net, there is absolutely no question about it: They suffer.
But … what about other animals who suffer in the commercial fishing industry?
These animals, who were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time (not that there’s ever a “right” time to catch someone), get tangled in nets and hooked by long-lines. Once fishermen realize that they’re not the specific species of fish they were initially looking for, the animals are thrown overboard.
So, let’s meet some of the nearly 1,000 animals who are innocent victims of bycatch every single day, shall we?
