There are a lot of great quotes about animal rights. Do you have a favorite?

Here are some which I really like from Isaac Bashevis Singer, a Nobel Laureate, who became vegetarian after drawing connections between atrocities faced by human beings and the systematic exploitation of animals at slaughterhouses.

“There will be no justice as long as man will stand with a knife or with a gun and destroy those who are weaker than he is.”

“How can we pray to God for mercy if we ourselves have no mercy?”

“[M]y vegetarianism is a great protest. And I dream that there may be a whole religion based on protest … against everything which is not just: about the fact that there is so much sickness, so much death, so much cruelty. My vegetarianism is my religion, and it’s part of my protest against the conduct of the world.”

Very powerful! If you’re not already vegetarian, what are you waiting for? And everyone should check out ways to get more active on our Take Charge page.

P.S. Silverstein’s new video is cool. I like the latest from Rise Against, too.

Here’s my favorite quote about animals and animal rights.
“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than othes.”
    -George Orwell
Humans are animals too, and specisists think that some animals are more important or more valuable than others; like cats over cows, dogs over pigs, etc.

OMG. There are so many to choose from. So I’ll choose 4.
    1. Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: “Because the animals are like us.” Ask the experimenters why it is morally OK to experiment on animals, and the answer is: “Because the animals are not like us.” Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction. — Professor Charles R.Magel
2.The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer? — Jeremy Bentham
3.We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form. ~William Ralph Inge, Outspoken Essays, 1922
4.”We want people to recognise that all animals, not just humans, deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. In order to protect the welfare of animals, we must respect their right not be hurt and killed by human beings who should know better. The world believes in human rights because we are capable of feeling physical and emotional pain, and because we have a will to live. But all animals share these features, and so, logically, we should honour their rights.” –Dan Lyons
I had to put them all up, because they all bring up really good points, and they make people think :0]

“I have from an early age abhorred the use of meat and the time will come when men will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men.” -Leonardo Da Vinci

God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages. ~Jacques Deval, Afin de vivre bel et bien
From beasts we scorn as soulless,
    In forest, field and den,
The cry goes up to witness
    The soullessness of men.
    ~M. Frida Hartley
The question is not, “Can they reason?” nor, “Can they talk?” but rather, “Can they suffer?” ~Jeremy Bentham
Never wear anything that panics the cat. ~P.J. O’Rourke
Personally, I would not give a fig for any man’s religion whose horse, cat and dog do not feel its benefits. Life in any form is our perpetual responsibility. ~S. Parkes Cadman
Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides should know they’re in the game. ~Paul Rodriguez
    Just to name a few

“I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it’s such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.”
    ~Ellen DeGeneres
    and
“The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men.”
    ~Leonardo da Vinci

While this isn’t my favorite quote, it’s a good one for animal rights:
“Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.”
    -Thomas Edison
