Humane Slaughter Doesn’t Exist

Humane, adjective: marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals.

According to Jewish law, proper kosher slaughter requires a quick, deep stroke across the throat with a perfectly sharp blade. This method, when used in conjunction with a proper restraint pen, a skilled slaughterer, and non-stressed cattle, is supposed to render the animals unconscious within seconds. But time and time again, PETA investigations have exposed how kosher slaughterhouses have failed to live up to this standard.

In kosher facilities that use “shackle and hoist,” for example, cattle are tripped to the ground and forcibly restrained while their legs are chained. Panicked cows are turned upside down prior to slaughter while workers stand on their legs and use a sharp metal instrument called the “devil’s fork” to pin their heads down and expose their necks for the kosher slaughter cut. After the cut, the cattle immediately are hoisted by one leg to be bled out, while most of the animals are still conscious and able to feel pain.

After a PETA investigation exposed the cruelty of “shackle and hoist” slaughter, Israel’s chief rabbi promised to phase out this cruel method. But two years later, a new PETA investigation of the largest cattle slaughterhouse in Uruguay, found cows still going through this terrifying and painful process. This meat is exported to the United States and Israel.

How can you torture an animal like this and take their life simply to eat them—and call it humane? No meat is humane.

What would you call it?

Stay loud!

I think the Kosher way to slaughter animals is not the way that was described here. This sounds like the usual way of doing things when in a hurry or for big profit making and fast results. I am not vegan but I eat eggs from pen free hens and do not much meat. I especially do not eat veal.. I think that if you look at the way a person treats animals, it can be a big indicator of how they treat people who are weaker than them.

That Truely is sick and inhumane. I’ve shared countless videos of such horrible instances with anyone I can. Those peolpe deserve to die the same way 1000 times over. Making a living off of killing isn’t MAKING a LIVING, it’s TAKING INNOCENT LIVES. They need to be educated.

This really is heartbreaking. Does working in a slaughterhouse turn people into sadists or are sadists just naturaly drawn to the job? Why isn’t this kind of treatment of animals a crime? It should be.

Animals eat each other too and we are not telling them to be vegetarian. The sick thing is that there are people having fun while prolonging the death of an animal when they could do it so much quicker. And yeah, we should eat less meat, but my digestive sistem does not resemble that of a cow.

Horrific! This breaks my heart to see innocent helpless animals treated this way.
The humane race needs to break their addictions to animal flesh and GO VEGAN.

I have always lived in Los Angeles but my family and I went to Mexico for my parents wedding. So we came back to LA. I don't like LA but were here already what can I do unless I move out and find my own housing. I have always liked animals and it was til I was like about 14 when I learned about tests they do on animals and I began to explore animal cruelty because I was interested it in it. I have watched videos that just broke my heart so that's why today I'm doing all I can to not buy anything that has harmed an animal and I'm vegetarian .
