Each year, 45 million turkeys are killed just for Thanksgiving—but they suffer before they die. Some are kicked or have their heads stomped on, and some have even been known to have their heads held underwaterall while they are still alive.

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and this is the BEST time to share why you don’t eat turkeys with all your Facebook peeps. Seriously!

Here are the details:

Here’s an example:

SO EASY!

Thanks for speaking up for turkeys!

I’ve been a vegetarian since 1992 and vegan for the last few years, and the liberating factor, is that you realize nothing has to suffer and die for your maintenance. Jesus was against it , by saying, ‘ give me mercy , not sacrifice’, and we should all heed those words as they continue to liberate the oppressed and voiceless. Just because animals are less capable of defending themselves from certain death is no reason to take advantage of them, and for us doing so, sadly diminishes us as a species , charged with stewardship over this planet and its sentient beings.

Please go Vegan, and live longer, as now President Clinton fully realizes. I wish he would have added however, that he also feels ‘good’ about not have to kill for his food.

Eating a hot, dead turkey is a disgusting thing to do on Thanksgiving or any other day. My heart aches for all the turkeys that have died so people can be gluttons. I am grateful to read all these posts from humans with some sense.

Before anyone buys a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, they should be forced to watch how these poor creatures are killed. That would definitely spoil their appetites.

There haven’t been animals on my plate for the past 23.5 years and there will never be. I learned years ago that my “demand” for flesh was selfish, destructive, cruel, and completely unnecessary.

In the face of those revelations, how *dare* anyone even think they are on moral underpinnings to question why anyone doesn’t consume other creatures?

“Do not ask me why I will not consume other animals. Instead, ask yourself why you still do.” –IE Ries

I left 15 years ago all meat without even knowing the cruelty that these animals suffer. There is no need to feed on cruelty, we are much healthier without meat

Hace 15 años he dejado todo tipo de carne aún sin saber la crueldad que sufren estos animales. No es necesario alimentarse de crueldad, somos mucho más sanos sin carne

I will not be having Turkey this year or any other year because I can not stand the cruelty involved. I am so sick of animals being tortured, hurt, abused and killed. I will not eat anymore meat for the sake of the animals. It is very hard at times but I will not give up my beliefs that every animal is precious.

Turkey’s staying off my plate this year because the images makes me sick and upsets me. When I see cooked meat I see a dead animal whose life was taken to be turned into someone’s meal. I also see the inhumane ways the meat industry uses to hurt these animals be they turkey or cow.

Weird how nobody would say, “would you like a slice of crocodile?” at thanksgiving, but are happy to eat turkey. Er, hello, what’s the difference? They’re both living things.

There should be no such thing as the ‘meat industry’. That’s like saying the ‘death industry’ or the ‘carnage industry’. That’s disgusting. If your going to eat meat, you should be able to kill the animal yourself. If you can’t bring yourself to do that, you shouldn’t be eating it.

And an ‘industry’ means transportation, factory processing, etc. etc. These things just don’t go hand in hand with animal welfare. If it’s going to be eaten, it ought to have a life in the fresh air first, and die in it’s natural environment, not in the horror of some slaughterhouse.

So all those people who eat turkey at thanksgiving ought to be keeping a turkey in their back yard right now, and when thanksgiving arrives they ought to go out their and kill it on the spot themselves, and then they can do all the ‘processing’ too – pluck all the feathers out, take it’s head off etc., and see how they like it. People don’t have to think about the actual death and destruction involved in eating dead animals because they can grab them off the store shelf. If people had to keep and prepare their own meat from start to finish, they’d eat less of it and animals would not suffer so badly. If they must eat meat at all. And I assure you, I wouldn’t touch a slice of turkey anymore than I would a slice of crocodile… i.e not at all!

Or, ‘Oh, would you like a slice of dog/cat?” Oh, wait…other cultures still do that.

It just shows how arbitrarily humans have “decided” which animals are “only” good enough to consumer, which are good servants, and so on. Completely arbitrary nonsense.

A ‘Celebration’ that includes & necessitates eating a sacrificed animal doesn’t adhere to my concept of a festivity. And otherwise, God bless our animals – we should be caring for them, managing their populations but certainly not destroying their lives & spirits as cruelly & unconsciously as continues to be done. If I could know that an animal lived out a decent life & was executed ‘humanely”, I won’t mind eating from him now & then. But in my lifetime I’ve trained my body for a vegetarian diet that suffices me well. But I believe that consuming an occasional meal of animal flesh should be OK if we could only know the life & death it led. That’s a consumer request …

I’m leaving turkeys off my plate because i ALWAYS leave all animal products off my plate! I have not eaten an animal in many decades, since i was a kid (and it felt horrible back then too) and to me it is a hanous, thing to do in the first place. TO SAY NOTHING OF HOW THOSE POOR CREATURES ARE TORTURED in the MOST UNTHINKABLE WAYS, JUST SO SOME STUPID HEARTLESS HUMANS CAN HAVE THEIR SICK APPETITES SATISFIED. I just PRAY for the time when no animal will be human food ever again! OR HURT IN ANY WAY BY HUMANS EVER AGAIN!!! http://bit.ly/bfXBHx

i am not goin to eat turkey chicken duck or any other bird in fact. i have a pet nanday conure who i truly love as my own child we adopted nearly 12 years ago now. he is the baby of our family so why would i ever harm one of gods creatures we are to love and charish as in noahs ark and his animals and family did all of those years ago. my mission is to never eat another creature god has created or harm them in any way possible. i mean how would you all feel if it were you and your family being butchered and killed for a feast. we need to love one another no more hate and killing i say. stop the killing now before judgement day arives. love one another is my mission not death and killing we need to love one another/be kind!!!!!

Thanksgiving is the hardest “holiday” for me, when I found out what happens to all animals back in 2009, I wish I knew then what I know now. I worked in a grocery store and I hated selling meat. It eventually went to my head and I quit. It bothers me tho when people do find out about this cruelty and they go about eating it anyway. ( like family members) I guess animals channel there spirits to those that are compassionate., my spirit feels there pain, and I wish it would go away, there are alot of sadistic demons out there that just want to hurt anything in there path. I hope the higher power takes care of them. I will say a prayer for all those that are abused, light a candle in there honor, and pray that this world will change.

I agree with what you are saying Shauna. Most of my family eats meat. My boyfriend isn’t a vegetarian but he likes the veggie burgers I get. I’ve showed these videos to others who eat meat but they go ahead and eat meat anyways. I have a friend that is vegan and I think my bf’s webpal is also vegan. I skip turkey for Thanksgiving every year because first, I believe that no living thing should die to end up on my dinner plate, second, because inflicting a cruel death upon any living thing is inexcusable, and finally, because I never cared for eating turkey anyway. Thanksgiving may be a custom, but a turkey need not be an integral part of it. The point is to give thanks for what we have, not cause the death of something else to celebrate. To me, this diminishes the whole point of Thanksgiving.

I have, and am going Vegan for the last 20 + years, and I am proud to not participate in the cruelty of the meat industry. Those working in that industry , who need to work to eat like the rest of us, need to find jobs in other industries that do not require them to commit such horrible acts, so I pray for them that they may find better jobs and no longer have to deal with the horrors of what they do everyday. I love animals, stick up for their right to a non violent existance, and its clear that most religions call for non violence in such things as well, as noted here:

    http://www.serv-online.org/pamphlet2005.htm

Many people are simply desensitized to the act of eating meat for sustinence, and just need wake up call to free their diets to a non violent mode 😉

It’s so freeing, and may god shine light on this fact and free our animal friends of their bondage of cruelty 😉

    Thanks for reading.
