Mustache Monday Music: Thy Will Be Done
We thought in the spirit of the “Grow Your Own Fur” campaign, we would check in with a few bands that have some serious facial “fur”. Look no further than Providence, Rhode Island’s metal heroes, Thy Will Be Done! Long time vegetarian, singer J Costa, has a beard that everyone can be jealous of, and he doesn’t like what they do to animals for their fur. Read on!
How long have you been vegetarian?
Jay: I’ve been vegetarian for seven years.
What is it about fur that makes you so angry?
J: Well, I’m not sure if “angry” would be the adequate connotation. In my opinion I think compounding negative or destructive ideas and concepts is just simply projecting more negativity into the world. I feel it’s important to discuss them with an open heart and an open mind and allow true love to take shape. It is a hope that my love of all life can be reflected in my actions and maybe inspire another life to enrich their own in the way that I feel my own has become by preserving life.
How long has the beard been growing?
J: I trim here and there, but the last time that a razor touched my face was six or seven years ago. I’ve had facial hair for a long time. My brother first shaved my upper lip when I was in the 4th grade. No joke. Mom was a little upset with him.
What advice would you give to a fan that was interested in knowing more about animal rights?
J: Educate yourself. Knowledge is power. Learn and make your own decisions based on your own feelings and your own beliefs. You have control over your own actions. Every life has a direct impact on the world.
What does Thy Will Be Done have coming up?
J: We are currently writing and doing pre-production for our third album and will be touring with Hatebreed in December. We hope to see some familiar faces and make some new friends.
