‘Bones’ Star Emily Deschanel Boycotts Dairy
Emily Deschanel is a leading lady of many talents—actor, producer, wife, and mother are just a few of the real-life roles that she plays every day.
Here at peta2, we adore Emily for another reason: her unwavering compassion for animals. As a dedicated vegan, Emily has encouraged others to fight climate change with diet change, and she even had a vegan wedding!
In her latest video exposé, Emily gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the relationship between mother cows and their babies and the cruelty that they endure in the dairy industry.
It’s no secret that chickens, pigs, and other animals killed for food suffer on factory farms, but life for cows and calves in the dairy industry is no different. Check out these facts:
- Cows are forcibly impregnated with a device referred to by farmers as a “rape rack” in order to keep them constantly producing milk.
- Young calves are torn away from their mothers shortly after birth so that the milk that their mothers produce can be sold for human consumption instead.
- Male calves are slaughtered for meat or shipped off to the horrific veal industry.
- Female calves are destined for the same sad fate as their mothers.
The good news is that there are tons of seriously delish vegan products, such as almond milk, vegan cheese, and soy ice cream, that you can enjoy without harming animals. Don’t support an industry that rapes and kills animals and tears their families apart. Go vegan!
