FYI: Your Favorite Snack Is Probably Vegan

For me, going vegan opened up a delicious new world of food choices. I mean, it’s practically impossible to walk into any grocery store these days without finding vegan meat from brands such as Tofurky and Gardein and dairy-free options such as soy milk and Daiya brand vegan cheese.

But something else that really excited me about going vegan was finding out that so many of my favorite snacks from my pre-vegan days were still safe for me to eat, i.e., they were “accidentally vegan.” Which snacks am I talking about, you ask? Here’s a hint:

accidentally vegan snacks teaser

And before you go all, “But Whitney, why are you so psyched about unhealthy food?!” let me say this: I never said that this stuff was healthy. All I’m saying is that most of these are snacks you ate before—and can continue to eat now without a guilty conscience (because they don’t contain any animals or animal byproducts). That’s a big ol’ vegan win-win situation!

OK, now on to the good stuff. Prepare your taste buds and check out our fave “accidentally vegan” foods:

GMO heaven!!!! that’s why I don’t eat anything that has a commercial might be vegan but they’re full of chemicals that are not good for your body.

How are Oreos vegan? What about the cream in the middle? Is there no dairy in it? And the unfrosted Poptarts may not have dairy but there’s still gelatin in the middle?

I have only oreos, lays chips, and red bull in the country where I live. Actually, oreos are very fatty and there is a lot of sugar in there. Energy drinks are unhealthy too. What about sugar in oreos? Is it vegan too?

Sure these may be “vegan friendly” but many of these companies are using ingredients full of GMOs

Isn’t the filling in all poptarts made out of the same things? How are the unfrosted ones vegan when I thought the filling contained gelatin?

The frosting is what contains gelatin in the non vegan ones.

Lay’s BBQ chips are soaked in chicken fat, they’re the grossest form of not vegan.
