Mission: From Pond to Plastic Bag—Repost a Betta Fish’s Story
In the shallow water of ponds, rice paddies, and marshes, you’ll find betta fish living freely. Bettas are native to Asia, but they and other “pet shop” fish are often taken from their natural habitats. They are packed in plastic bags with no food and shipped overseas to the United States and other countries. Most don’t make it to the pet store alive.

If they do survive, the fish are then passed through suppliers, finally ending up on the store shelf. They are lined up like toys and home decor inside what looks like a Tupperware container for potato salad?!☹️
Betta fish are not “low-maintenance” or “starter pets.” They require lots of care, just like any other companion animal. If you’re prepared to add an animal to your family, whether they are a betta fish, goldfish, or another species, always adopt – never support stores that sell betta fish.💙
