Mission: Spread the Word—NEVER Buy a Betta Fish
Having a companion animal in your dorm room, apartment, or house to keep you company sounds nice. But remember this: If you don’t want to support the suffering of countless animals, you should NEVER buy a betta fish! 🙅

Petco (aka an animal trafficker) and other “pet” stores keep betta fish in tiny plastic containers stacked on top of one another, each with barely a couple of inches of water. Many stores let dead and dying fish float in cups of dirty water and suffer from untreated health conditions. And have you seen how these fish are often shipped to stores?
Betta fish are unique individuals who can feel joy, fear, and pain, but “pet” stores sell them for a few dollars or less to buyers with little to no idea how to care for them. Most spend their lives suffering by themselves in a tiny bowl or container because stores peddle the misinformation that they have to live alone. 😡 Imagine how miserable this life would be.
Earn peta2 Points
Every time someone buys a betta, they fuel the demand for an industry that treats them like objects. Here’s the good news: We can help give bettas a much-deserved glow-up. ❤️ Follow these steps to let everyone know why they shouldn’t buy them and earn 25 50 peta2 points from our Rewards Program:
1. Print out this leaflet and put it where someone will see it (and where you have permission to leave it). Try local coffee shops, car washes, libraries, community centers, or your dorm—wherever you think would be best.
2. Take a pic of the leaflet where you left it and submit it for 25 50 peta2 points. You’ll earn double the points all summer long for taking action to help animals on peta2.com! (Heads-up: You’ll only be awarded points for taking this action once.)
