Can you believe that many of the shelters that take in stray animals don’t always spay or neuter them before adopting them out? Missy Elliott couldn’t believe it either.
The shelters in her hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia, don’t require that dogs be fixed before being adopted, and they had to euthanize more than 2,300 animals last year.
When Missy learned this fact, she sent a letter to the vice mayor’s office, asking them to take action. She asked them to pass an ordinance requiring that all animals adopted from any shelter in Portsmouth be spayed or neutered, which would save thousands of lives.
Should the vice mayor pay attention? Missy describes herself as “a bitch of power … whatever it takes to get where I want, that’s what I’ll do.” You decide.
