Like any student, you’re probably excited to have Monday, January 20, off. I mean, who doesn’t love three-day weekends?

[peta-gif gif_id="4207" width="300"] You on Monday morning.

But did you know that Martin Luther King Jr.’s wife, Coretta Scott King, was a vegan and well-known activist and that one of their sons, Dexter Scott King, is a vegan as well? Well, now you do!

So this year, we’re challenging you to make your day off a “day on” by volunteering your time to help animals!

Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his entire life to helping others, so we’re encouraging you to take one day (or even just part of it!) to do your part and help out, too.

What are some things that you can do to help, you ask? Here are a few ideas:

1. Volunteer at your local open-admission shelter with your friends and/or donate blankets, toys, and other supplies to animals in need.

2. Complete awesome peta2 missions for points! You can use those points later to get FREE peta2 T-shirts, books, and more.

3. If you have a neighbor who works long hours or who keeps his or her dog outside most of the time, offer to take the pup for a walk.

4. Share peta2’s “The Dream” video on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

5. Organize a quick protest.

6. Leaflet around town to get the message out (be sure to print out free leaflets and stickers here!).

Every effort helps, so don’t be afraid to get out there—even if it’s for half an hour—and get the word out. And remember, have fun!
