Christen Press is an all-star on and off the soccer field. Already a World Cup champ, a member of 2016’s Olympic women’s soccer team, and part of the 2016 “Body Issue” of ESPN magazine, she’s making the world a better place for homeless animals like her rescued pup, Morena. We recently hung out with Christen to hear her talk about why it’s so important to adopt dogs from animal shelters and never buy them from breeders or pet stores.
A four-legged friend is a great addition to the family. Christen says that her rescued dogs “ended up saving us” and brought her family closer together.
“They’ve literally changed our entire life, . . . You know, who rescues who?”
Christen wants her fans to know that for every dog or cat purchased from a pet store or breeder, a homeless animal is robbed of his or her chance at finding a home. Every year, more than 6 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters—and half of them must be euthanized because there just aren’t enough homes for them. If you hear of anyone looking to buy an animal from a store or breeder, urge them to adopt—not shop!
Want to add a furry friend to your family? Take Christen’s advice: Always adopt. Go to your local animal shelter and save a homeless animal!
