Tomorrow, Florida’s Terra Ceia Village Improvement Association will decide whether to cancel its scheduled “mullet toss.”

WTF is a “mullet toss”? Apparently people will use nets to pull mullet fish out of the water and allow the animals to slowly suffocate so that contestants can make a game out of throwing the animals’ dead bodies into a toilet bowl.

Sounds like just another “game” in a long list of cruel, ridiculous, and downright stupid excuses to hurt animals to me. Luckily, the association decided yesterday to consider canceling the mullet toss after we sent it a letter pointing out that fish are sensitive animals who feel pain, just as all animals do. Terra Ceia residents could easily toss horseshoes, bean bags, or bocce balls instead of the bodies of animals who have been pulled from their natural environment and suffocated to death.

RAISE YOUR VOICE! Send a quick (and polite!) e-mail to association President Bob Zonies at [email protected] and association directors Ernie Broderick (at [email protected]), Jim Brady (at [email protected]), and Jim Jacobsen (at [email protected]). Ask that they replace this cruel event with one that is cruelty-free.

E-mail us at [email protected] with a copy of your letter for 500 points!

P.S. Live in Terra Ceia, Florida? Please attend the 7 p.m. meeting at the Terra Ceia Village Improvement Association Hall tomorrow, Thursday, and speak up for fish! E-mail [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to help!
