Do you know what makes pies even sweeter? Not using dairy or eggs to make them. Cows’ and chickens’ reproductive systems are exploited for eggs and milk and most of these animals live miserable lives in factory farms until they’re considered “spent” and they’re slaughtered. But there’s no reason for pies to be a product of animal suffering. All of the following pies are 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free, which makes them taste even better.

Without further ado, here are some pies that would make your Nana smile:

Store-Bought Pies

Both Claim Jumper and Marie Callender’s are brands you’ve probably heard of or seen in the grocery store freezer, but did you know that many of their pies are accidentally vegan?!

Claim Jumper

For those of you who don’t know, a banoffee pie combines bananas and toffee. (Seriously, what could be better than that?) Use this recipe from Sarah Britton of My New Roots to create a sweet, healthier pie with different options that you can play around with.

Pineapple & Pine Pollen Cream Cake

Not all pies are classic pies! The Sun Cult has a gorgeous raw pie/cake that is definitely worth checking out. If you want a healthier take on an American staple, this is the pie for you!

Vegan pies sure take the cake! Keep your eyes peeled near your grocery store’s bakery counter, too. Some chains, such as Whole Foods, carry freshly baked vegan pies.
