It’s clear that America is bacon-obsessed, and the trend looks like it’s here to stay. I love bacon just as much as anyone, but once I learned that mother pigs spend most of their miserable lives in gestation crates that are too small for them to turn around in and baby pigs are castrated without painkillers, I knew there was something wrong with eating bacon.
These intelligent, sensitive animals shouldn’t have to endure torture just for a few minutes of taste sensation for me. Causing someone a lifetime of pain for a few minutes of pleasure is beyond selfish—it’s cruel.
Going vegan was the best decision I’ve ever made. I am happier and healthier, and I feel great knowing that no one has to suffer for my meals. Do I still love bacon? Of course I do! But being vegan doesn’t mean you have to give up bacon.
When I first went vegan, I thought I’d never be able to enjoy a BLT again. But then, I discovered Lightlife Smart Bacon. It’s widely available at many chain grocery stores, and it’s super-easy to make.
Coconut bacon does have a slight coconut-y taste to it, but it’s great for sprinkling on sandwiches, salads, and even some desserts (maple bacon donuts anyone?).
So there you have it! With all the great vegan bacon options available, you can continue with your bacon obsession without hurting pigs. Life is beautiful.
