Most mother pigs in the U.S. spend their entire adult lives confined to cramped metal crates. They are imprisoned for their entire pregnancies and post-pregnancies in “gestation crates” and “farrowing crates,” cages that are so small they can’t even turn around or lie down comfortably.
Piglets are taken away from their mothers shortly after birth, often when they are less than 1 month old!
