Who doesn’t like Halloween? If you could wrap up the sound of Halloween in a band, you’d get something that sounded like New Years Day. And band vocalist Ash Costello jumped into our hearts when we saw her adopted pup, Barnabus. Don’t get us wrong! We love all the cool stuff that her band does—like playing Warped Tour, winning Kerrang! awards, and being awesome in general—but we literally can’t even when we see this.

While her vibe may be Halloween-esque, Ash is an absolute angel to us and, more importantly, to animals. For this very reason, we made her an official “angel.” And you’re lucky enough to get to see the results:

Every year, 6 to 8 million homeless dogs and cats enter animal shelters, and half of them are euthanized because there aren’t enough good homes for them. When you adopt an animal instead of buying one from a pet store or breeder, you save a life. Shelter animals are also spayed or neutered before you are able to bring them homeso you get to bring a happy, healthy fuzzball into your life and know that you’re doing your part to help control animal homelessness.

Here, Ash tells you in her own words why you should adopt:

It’s no understatement that bringing an animal companion into your home is a huge responsibility, but you are saving a life. Just be sure to adopt and never buy. Ash did it, and so can you by simply visiting your local shelter, preparing your house for an animal, and then showering him or her with massive amounts of affection
