Missy Higgins wants you to know that the only difference between your beloved dog and animals who are killed for their fur is how we treat them.
The award-winning Aussie songbird previously posed for PETA’s vegetarian ad, and now she’s back for her second—that’s right, her second—peta2 ad! To help spread the word about the cruelty involved in the fur industry, Missie and the always adorable Izzy appear beside the tagline “If You Wouldn’t Wear Your Dog, Please Don’t Wear Any Fur.”
Behind every piece of fur is an enormous amount of suffering. Animals trapped in the wild often suffer in excruciating pain for days before they are drowned, bludgeoned, or stomped to death by trappers. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy wire cages where they are exposed to all kinds of weather conditions and never receive any veterinary care before they are suffocated, poisoned, strangled, or electrocuted or have their necks broken.
Undercover video footage from fur farms in China, the world’s leading exporter of fur, shows that workers were smashing animals’ heads against the ground and skinning them alive. Dogs and cats are bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and sometimes skinned alive for their fur in China, too, and their fur is mislabeled and sold around the world. So if you wear any fur, there’s no way of knowing who you are wearing.
